Design Future London 2024 challenge winners announced at City Hall
Community, diversity, environment, green space, places for people to relax and connect and housing for everyone, these are some of the themes to emerge from the winning designs in the Design Future London young persons' challenge 2024.
Now in its third year, the challenge encourages young Londoners to imagine the future of the city. This year it is helping ensure young people are heard in the planning and development process, as the finalists’ design ideas will be fed into the next iteration of the London Plan. As well as the entries, young people have also been submitting their priorities for London into a live dashboard that will inform the plan.
The challenge is run in partnership with the Mayor of London, MOBIE, C40 Cities, Minecraft Education and the Local Village Network. This year we asked entrants to pick a site in their neighbourhood, to think of a problem and to create a design to help address the issue, both in their local area and in London as a whole.
The judges were in awe of the design ideas and blown away by the amazing presentations from the teams and individuals on the finals day, which was held at City Hall on 8th March. The winners were:
5-11 yrs – Winner: Team VW; Runner Up: Leyton Mega Makers
11-15 yrs – Winner: Vision Design; Runner Up: BLT and Partners
16-18 yrs – Joint winners: Teenz and H&A; Joint Runners Up: UN and Chis and Sid
19-24 yrs – Winner: Spoon of London; Runner Up: Greener London Alliance
Local Village Network mentored programme – Winner: The Bubble Building; Runner Up: Wildflower Development
In addition, there was a People’s vote that attracted nearly 5000 votes. The winners were:
5-11 yrs – Winner: Team Green, Glebe Primary School
11-15 yrs – Winner: Team Year 10, St Michael’s Catholic Grammar
16-18 yrs – Winner: Chis and Sid, Chiselhurst and Sidcup Grammar
Local Village Network mentored programme – Winner: Hetvi and Abiola, Haberdashers Hatcham College.
