A well-designed home can enhance the way we live and promote our well-being. I’m passionate about high standards of home-design, high quality home-building and creating truly affordable, sustainable and beautiful communities for everyone to be able to enjoy living in.

At MOBIE we believe it is for tomorrow’s generation to define how they want to live now, and in the future. I started MOBIE to create a generational shift, to inspire, train and retrain the young people who will deliver the homes and places that we want and really need. There are incredible opportunities to create a new built environment, one that is truly green, affordable, promotes health and well-being and builds homes that are amazing spaces to live in.

We have created an educational pathway from BTEC through to post graduate in future and advanced home design, manufacture and construction. Our first MSc in Advanced Home Futures at Teesside University commenced in 2018, and we now offer courses at different levels at different universities.

 We want to positively disrupt the homebuilding sector by attracting and nurturing a new cohort of designers, makers, developers, and economists, planners, surveyors and integrators to enter and reshape the housing industry. From lectures by leading industry professionals to live project briefs and engaging with real sites, clients and technologies, MOBIE courses have been structured to help you respond creatively to the challenges of home building. You’ll work collaboratively from initial design to implementation, while addressing developing opportunities in the industry, such as new technologies, digitisation, energy efficiency and sustainable design.

FOR THE FUTURE INNOVATION CENTRE

About the course:

MOBIE is partnering with Northumbria University to offer 15 co-funded PhDs over the next three years. Focusing on ‘Homes for the Future’ the initiative will investigate new methods of construction, design, offsite manufacture, digital competencies and new materials. This research aims to transform house building into a clean, efficient and precision-engineered process with greater levels of quality control.

With R&D investment in construction still critically low, this collaboration will support the sector to invest in innovation. Participating businesses will work with Northumbria University to identify areas of opportunity, and benefit from boosting productivity with new products, services or processes arising from the research project over three years. The university will jointly fund the studentships, meaning businesses will invest roughly £10k for each of the three years.
